Obesity & Diet Management

Synopsis: The aim for today’s session is to equip health professionals with emerging knowledge on obesity etiology and to manage obesity management – ranging from advice on diet, physical activity, medication, surgery and more. The speaker also aims to empower primary care doctors to be part of an all-rounded, holistic multi-disciplinary team; coordinating subsequent care, managing weight loss, weight maintenance and also aiming to improve the health outcomes for both children and adults as they journey towards healthy living in the community.
Dr Tham Kwang Wei, MB, BCh, BAO, MD, ABIM (Int Med), ABIM (Endocrinology) is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Endocrinology, Singapore General Hospital.
She is the Director of LIFE (Lifestyle Improvement and Fitness Enhancement) Centre, Singapore General Hospital. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
Her main interest is in the clinical management of obesity and is involved in weight loss intervention trials locally. She is on the board of directors and the current President of the Singapore Association for the Study of Obesity (SASO), which aims to promote the study of obesity in Singapore including its causes, manifestations, prevention and treatment.
